The application website will close by 3:00 PM, Monday, November 2, 2009. The online application is now available.
In order to apply for the conference please read ALL the information below which explains the process of how we will review applicants and notify of our selections.

CREATE YOUR LOGIN/PASSWORD

You will need to create a login and password during this period, which will be used to access all forms of communication. Register Now and make changes or updates to your application until the application deadline date. Be sure to keep a record of the password you created.

Once logged in to the application site you will need to fill in some basic biographical information about yourself and answer the three essay questions below. All essays need to have a response. It is advised that you complete your essays in advance. Applications will be reviewed from October 22 – 25, and notifications sent out by email on or about October 26, 2009. Please list a valid email address. Once selections are made, applicants will be notified with instructions on confirming their participation. A wait list will be created in case spots become available after the selection.

Essay Questions
You are asked to write an essay response to each of the following questions. You should prepare your response in advance and be ready to simply cut and paste these into the application. This assures you will be able to complete the application and not be timed or locked out by your internet service provider.
  1. What do you perceive to be the Asian Pacific American issues in your community, if any?

(no more than one page, 3,200 characters with spaces)
  2. How has the perception of Asian Pacific Americans on your campus affected your college experience?

(no more than one page, 3,200 characters with spaces)
  3. What do you hope to learn from attending this conference and how do you expect to apply the skills and information gained?

(no more than one page, 3,200 characters with spaces)

It is important that you complete all the required fields including submission of a response to each essay question. There is no right or wrong answer to these open questions, but we encourage you to give some critical thought based upon your own experiences. In general, you are limited to about one single space typed page per answer.

CONFERENCEWEEKEND

Traditionally we have attempted to hold the conference during Veteran’s Day weekend. Since Veteran’s Day falls on a weekday we have chosen a date that limits its impact to the academic calendar. We recognize some colleges and universities may not observe this holiday and that you may have to miss classes in order to attend the first day of the conference on Friday, November 13, 2009. We ask that all participants make the commitment to accept our invitation, arrive at the scheduled time, and be fully engaged throughout the duration of the conference. Due to the nature of the conference we cannot accept partial attendance. Please review the tentative conference schedule in order to make adjustments to your school or work schedule. If you have any questions regarding the application process, send an email to APLC@sa.ucsb.edu.
